Duration: 55 minutes without interval
On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci, the return to the stage of Il volo di Leonardo by Flavio Albanese. The play is based on the Codex on the flight of birds held in the Royal Library of Turin and written by Leonardo in 1505, in which the genius artist-scientist studies and analyses the flight of birds, questioning the possibility for humankind to leave the ground with the use of flying machines. Flavio Albanese brings to the stage the infinite thirst for knowledge and the curiosity of the greatest genius of the Renaissance, playing the role of his apprentice Tommaso Masini, also known as Zoroastro, who tells of his apprenticeship and the last flight with “the Great Kite”, the flying machine, one of Leonardo’s most visionary and advanced inventions. The experiment did not go as planned and Tommaso crashed to the ground... Despite various failures, Leonardo’s faith in human flight remained undamaged, evidence of another of his profound convictions, which was that of humankind’s ability to progress and to learn from experience which, whatever the results, always provides lessons in life.
