The National Journalists Award for Theatrical Criticism gets under way again for the 2017/18 season, a competition for cultural writers under the age of 36, promoted by Network Lettera 22 which brings together more than 40 partners and a programme recounting almost 400 shows.
The 11 jury members, critics and academics from the Italian theatrical world, will be awarding the most innovative writers.
The Piccolo Teatro will be taking part with ten shows: Uomini e no, Pinocchio, Fine pena: ora, Il sindaco del rione Sanità, Nachlass, Freud o l’interpretazione dei sogni, Il teatro comico, Medea, Copenaghen and The year of cancer.
The competition calls on young Italian cultural writers to identify new possible formats and channels for theatrical criticism and in general for live entertainment journalism, involving them in a process of vision, writing practice and meetings with organisations and artists.
Network Lettera 22 is made up of 100 auditoriums in 40 theatrical institutions, 7 festivals with as many temporary editorial teams, 4 universities,, involving 50 cities and 15 regions in Italy.
The competition is aimed at professional journalists or publicists, collaborators in printed, online or radio-tv news services, bloggers, school students and those studying for masters, degree students of graduates in humanistic disciplines and those who, sharing interests in theatre, dance and performance, want to try their hand at critical writing, imagining new models and new forms of communication with the public.
Lettera 22 proposes a veritable widespread workshop of ideas, in order to discover new and effective modes of communication between audiences and the stage.
The winners will be those who demonstrate the highest levels of innovation, in terms of language, format and techniques for visibility: first prize, € 1000.00; second prize, €500.00; third prize, three printed books and an annual subscription to the CUE Press platform. The awards will be presented during a public ceremony in November 2018 held at the Teatro Verdi in Padova.
