In July in collaboration with the Municipality of Milan, the programme spreads out to reach the Municipalities, with a particular focus on Social Housing establishments supported by the Cariplo Foundation. The protagonists of this “new decentralisation” will be Davide Enia, Stefano Massini and Marco Paolini.
“While ‘poor B.B.’ - explains Claudio Longhi - so dear to the Piccolo Teatro, is in some way the tutelary deity of the first part of our summer programming, the very motto of our Foundation serves as the guiding light of the second movement; Incursioni/Escursioni. With its all-embracing aim of rendering the stage a meeting point for the entire community, the formula “an art theatre for all” created by Paolo Grassi and Giorgio Strehler to encompass their idea of theatre clearly contains a well-defined “political” project to create a relationship between the theatre and the city. A reflection - generated through tangible experience - on the ways in which the stage can honour its intrinsic public and civic role, embodying the invitation of its founders to create a theatrical dialogue with all, thus emerges in the tracing by the theatre of physical paths through the city, developing the second movement of our summer against the backdrop of Milan. In a meditated debate of opposing forces - a depository, in our post-pandemic present, of the varying balances (and differing destinies) of all the possible cities characterised by the different representations that such a debate is capable of generating -,with its events set between the walls of the original venue in Via Rovello (uncovering the identity of Palazzo Carmagnola) and scattered en plein air in Milan’s web - among the various Municipalities -, within the various limitations imposed by current health restrictions, Incursioni/Escursioni is an attempt - obviously provisional and in constant evolution - to shed light on the essence of a theatre that is - to all intents and purposes and in all senses, from the material-literal to the ideal-content - of the city.
