The summer programme for the Piccolo Teatro di Milano - which is comprised of a wide range of possibilities including narrative theatre and choreography, the exploration of ideas and new dramaturgy - will take place over the coming months, from 21 June to 29 September, offering events at the Chiostro Nina Vinchi as well as others distributed among the various Municipalities of Milan, reflecting the concept of a theatre that aims both to encapsulate the city and at the same time “open up” to the same, sharing its visions.
The summer at the Piccolo offers two programmes - Ogni volta unica la fine del mondo (from 21 June to 29 September) and Incursioni/Escursioni (from 15 June to 26 September) - as well as a number of events from the Strehler100 project on 14 August and 1 October.
Claudio Longhi has entrusted the first programme, Ogni volta unica la fine del mondo, to a trio of artists: Marta Cuscunà, author and visual theatre performer, the performer and choreographer Marco D’Agostin and the theatrical ensemble lacasadargilla. Their ideas have created an extensive and profound reflection on sustainability in all its various forms; environmental, economic, human, social and artistic. The Chiostro Nina Vinchi will serve as the main setting for the events, with others taking place in the auditoriums, particularly in September.
Every evening at the Chiostro Nina Vinchi, the Libreria Popolare di Via Tadino will be present with a selection of titles chosen to reflect the events in the programme, offering further reading and more detailed information on the theme of sustainability.
Marta Cuscunà is a writer and visual theatre performer, and her work brings together activism and playwriting for puppets. In 2009 she won the Scenario per Ustica award with E’ bello vivere liberi!, the first chapter of Resitenze femminili, a trilogy that also includes La semplicità ingannata and Sorry boys. In Il canto della caduta she blends the ancient legend of Fanes with the principles of animatronics for manoeuvring puppets. Earthbound is a science-fiction monologue for actors and mechanical creatures, based on the latest eco-feminist essay by Donna Haraway. Between 2009 and 2019 she worked with Fies Factory, a project organised by Centrale Fies.
Marco D’Agostin is an artist in the field of dance and performance. His work concentrates on the themes of memory and entertainment. He has been travelling throughout Europe since 2010 and has received a number of awards and forms of recognition both in Italy (The UBU award, the Gd’A Veneto award, the Prospettiva Danza award) and abroad (BEFestival, (Re)connaisance, MasDanza).
His latest production, SAGA, was created with the support of the Hermes Foundation - New Settings and was presented for the first time ever at the Nouveau Théâtre di Montreuil in Paris in June 2021.
lacasadargilla: Lisa Ferlazzo Natoli – writer and director –, Alessandro Ferroni – director and sound designer –, Alice Palazzi – actor and coordinator – and Maddalena Parise – researcher and visual artist -, together with an ensemble of actors, musicians, playwrights and visual artists work on writings performances, installations, reviews and training. When the Rain Stops Falling won three UBU awards - including best director, and the National Theatrical Critics’ award. L’Amore del cuore - the company’s latest work - debuted in May 2021 and was enthusiastically received by both critics and audiences.
For the duration of Ogni volta unica la fine del mondo, the Chiostro Nina Vinchi will be playing host to a vegetable installation created by Cascina Zappello. A number of dedicated spaces will play host to a range of vegetables and herbs that will complete their life-cycle over the course of the summer. Furthermore, audiences will be symbolically donated seeds from two "special" plants: the roveja (a species protected by Slow Food since 2006) and the cecio nero, two legumes typical of the Mediterranean area that have almost completely disappeared from our diets and tables due to their absence from the shelves of large-scale retail distribution.
The Piccolo Teatro di Milano, with its summer scheduling, is now a Partner of the creative and multi-disciplinary initiative New European Bauhaus
