Having made his debut at the Piccolo last season with Magazzino 18, the actor, writer and singer Simone Cristicchi returns to the Teatro Strehler to study the human and spiritual journey of the «lunatic who spoke to birds», a universal symbol of spirituality and harmony with nature: Francis of Assisi.

Teatro Strehler
Written in collaboration with Simona Orlando, Franciscus is the latest chapter in the theatrical and musical project by Simone Cristicchi; an impassioned and moving account, but also an opportunity to reflect on the topicality of the message of Francis, a man in search of peace who wants to change the world, beginning with himself.
The son of a rich merchant, Francis chose to abandon all forms of privilege and live the poverty experienced by Christ and the apostles, and, like them, show love and understanding towards the weakest and the most marginalised: was he a revolutionary? A lunatic who lived a dream? Alone on stage, the artist takes multiple forms, changing his voice, his clothes and his personality, using a blend of theatre and music, with original songs written together with the singer and songwriter Amara, to paint the portrait of a troubled man consumed by doubt who still managed to form a vast and lively following. He also managed to rouse the suspicions of certain figures, such as Cencio, played by Cristicchi, a wandering rag-and-bone man who speaks an invented language and is a critical observer of the story of Francis.
A heartfelt examination on the thin line between lunacy and sanctity, on poverty as a conscious choice, on the search for a form of happiness that can finally be considered complete, representing renewed harmony between humankind and the universe.
Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes without intermission
