For the 2025/26 season, LaFil Filarmonica di Milano continues its artistic residency at the Piccolo with a special event featuring Avi Avital, the first mandolinist ever to be nominated for a Grammy Award, both as a soloist and as a conductor.
Teatro Studio Melato
Recognized as the foremost mandolin player on the international stage, Avi Avital presents an eclectic program that spans from the Baroque concertos of Bach and Vivaldi to contemporary works by Giovanni Sollima, and to Klezmer-inspired pieces such as Nodar Tsintsadze’s Miniatures for String Orchestra.
The concert offers a rare and fascinating repertoire that places the mandolin at the center, striking a perfect balance between classical and contemporary styles. This balance is sustained by Avi Avital’s boundless artistic curiosity, which moves freely across eras and cultures, blending popular and refined sounds. In his hands, the mandolin becomes a lyrical voice—capable of singing with both intensity and delicacy—yet also an instrument of rhythm, energy, and vitality.
Duration: 1 hour and 20 minutes, excluding intermission
