«I began with Gli anni piccoli, imagining a play that focused on the world of Enzo, sliding delicately into the shadows of the mind of a poet who is to Naples as Kavafis was to Alexandria»: Roberto Andò accompanies Lino Musella in a tribute to the unforgettable voice of Enzo Moscato.

Teatro Studio Melato
Two years on from the death of Enzo Moscato, Roberto Andò pays him tribute with a work that combines Gli anni piccoli – «a deliberately fragmented, sinuous and elusive attempt at an account of adolescence and at the same time a critical, valorous and impassioned exercise in abstraction and meditation on the act of writing» – with some of his most characteristic works.
«These are visionary combinations», comments the director, «moments of life re-examined with the eyes and ears of a shaman. Holes, faults and cracks in a shredded memory that has been repaired only later. The diary of a writer who detested the imposition of reality. One who preferred fantasy, and the music of rêverie».
A philosopher, poet, playwright, director and actor, Moscato was an outstanding figure in what was defined in the Eighties as “the new Neapolitan dramaturgy”. His unmistakable writing – often a musical and informal blend of Neapolitan, Italian, French, Spanish, English, German, Greek and Latin – has taken form and become theatre, digging deep into the human soul and bowels and expressing the tangible and metaphorical fragility of Naples.
