Since 2007 the Festival has united the two cities of Milan and Turin with the objective of divulging the best expressions of music in various locations within the two cities.
The ninth edition of MITO SettembreMusica will take place from 5 to 24 September 2015 and offers a programme for an international audience with the Italian premiere of Philip Glass's opera Akhnaten, grand orchestras such as the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic, The Scala Philharmonic, the Mariinskij Theatre Orchestra, and sonorous voyages which depict moments of great beauty from the history of Italian music, retracing sounds and traditions from the Bel Paese.
Among the numerous metropolitan locations involved in the Festival MITO SettembreMusica, the Piccolo Teatro this year plays an exceptional role thanks to the collaboration for the staging of Philip Glass's opera. Two appointments with international jazz at the Piccolo Teatro Studio Melato: Monday 7 September, a concert of Pierre Dørge & New Jungle Orchestra will present a mix of emotions and sounds from Asian, African and European music, creating a universe which renders their performances an extraordinary experience; on Friday 18 September Piano ring, a duel between Andrea Bacchetti and Michele Di Toro, in which the two pianists take on each other with a repertoire which ranges from classic to jazz, covering Liszt to Duke Ellington, from Thelonious Monk to Mendelssohn.
At the Teatro Grassi on Sunday 6, with an exceptional double recital at 3 pm and 6 pm, the Compagnia Marionettistica Carlo Colla & Figli will present Cinderella in the adaptation staged on the occasion of the 1906 International Exposition in Milan. A legendary show in which children and adults can admire the original sets and costumes, designed by Caramba, the famous costumist of the Teatro alla Scala, which come to life once more in a timeless tale.
