Sotterraneo was founded in 2005. To mark their twentieth anniversary, a special edition of DJ SHOW will be staged throughout 2025, a celebration that will travel from city to city, looking back over the ideas of the group and the period in which it developed.
DJ SHOW is a performance with a clear and seemingly simple goal: to encourage an audience to dance during a theatrical performance. A playlist embracing genres and periods is interspersed with rapid action, brief text and views of a landscape, with the aim of conducting an experiment that swings between DJ set and theatre, where the true spectacle is the dancing audience, where structure exists to disrupt superficial collective ritual, where fun is not a distraction and thought brings no interruption to the celebrations; on the contrary, everything comes together, bound by music.
The question is thus; can instinctive musical vibration and complex cognitive stimulation be mixed together? If the answer is yes, then this experiment will lead us to vibrate in unison to the rhythm of contemporary thought, torment and anxiety. If the answer is no, then we will eliminate a little toxicity, allowing our current individual anxieties and collective neuroses to drip, with our sweat, to the ground.
