Interweaving history and fable, Stefano Massini tells of the relentless odyssey of a red-faced blond boy from Queens who grows firstly into a man, then into an unscrupulous entrepreneur, and then dons the grotesque mask that we all know: that of Donald J. Trump.

Teatro Grassi
Following the international theatrical success of Lehman Trilogy, Stefano Massini – the only Italian writer to have received a Tony Award – now takes on another epic moment in American history, the rise of Donald J. Trump, the incredible emergence of a leader who has gone where no-one else dared to go, rewriting the roles of economics, finance, politics and even culture. As early as his forties, he was already looking down over the rest of humanity from a 3000-square-metre apartment with a view of Manhattan, from where he planned his monarchical reign.
With a fast-paced series of twists, triumphs and bankruptcies, Massini looks back over the adventurous life of a man who turned himself into an icon, a brand and a spokesperson for his own success, passing every limit and overstepping the law in a tireless challenge from which there is no quitting, and the only option is to take another dizzying step forward.
What emerges is that Donald is, in the end, the personification of our times, a perfect expression of the short circuit between reality and reality, between fake and fiction, and between person and personality. The result is a revealing and, for many, chilling story that sees the theatre once again rise to its age-old mission of providing a critical view of contemporary life, exposing darkness and infinite depths with the disarming simplicity of an essential narrative.
