The story of a world that has never ceased to sacrifice the innocent on an altar of lies. Peppino Mazzotta lends form and voice to Igor Esposito’s contemporary theatrical rewriting of the Oresteia. On stage, two musicians whose sounds become dramaturgy, like a contemporary Greek choir.

Teatro Studio Melato
A sole voice, captured by a microphone and launched into the night, wanders from repeater to repeater, in search of ears willing to hear the story it wants to tell. The story is Radio Argo Suite, based on the theatrical script by Igor Esposito, a poet and playwright who created a contemporary rewriting of Aeschylus’s Oresteia.
Winner of the Le Maschere del Teatro Italiano 2024 award for this work, Peppino Mazzotta lends voice and form to segments of an ancient story, bringing it into modern times; six ghostly voices echo among the rubble of the Trojan war, a paradigm of all wars, to express the archetype of a conflict that repeats over the centuries, with the same logic of power, sacrifice and lies.
«The figures of Greek and Trojan heroes are a sinister echo of recent history», comments Mazzotta, «modern tyrants in suits and ties, colonels in uniform, oppressed by tragic manias and perverse obsessions, wage war in the name of false ideals while power feeds on the same old ancient pretexts».
A fundamental component of the play is the music of Massimo Cordovani, performed live together with Mario Di Bonito, dramaturgy in the form of a present-day choir.
Duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes without intermission
