Stefano Massini takes his cue from a news story from France to tell the story of eleven women, eleven factory workers, all differing in age, origin, background, fears and obsessions, fighting against a seemingly innocent request for them to accept a reduction in their lunch break. A slice of European society of today in which the workforce is ever less protected, faced by ever more anonymous "bosses".
Eleven women – with Ottavia Piccolo as their “leader” – all gripped with the fear of losing their jobs, are forced to heroic levels of reasoning in order to not give in to the laws of necessity which the managers of their factory are trying to use as a kind of silent blackmail, weakening their dignity and eating away at the rights they have earned, This is the highly topical core of 7 minuti, inspired by a true story, which appears to have powerfully impressed both Stefano Massini and Alessandro Gassmann. «There are stories which seek you out. They seem to be doing everything they can to be told, to be written. One of these has found and conquered me, the story of the fabric workers of Yssingeaux, in the Haute-Loire», says Stefano Massini. «7 minuti by Stefano Massini, based on a recent episode in a French factory is, in this period of history, the pièce which I was looking for – adds Alessandro Gassmann –. We talk about work, women, rights, we tell of the fears for our future and for that of our children, the rash anger which precarious working conditions can unleash».
