Hansel e Gretel

Touring production

Eugenio Monti Colla re-reads the famous fable by the Brothers Grimm, highlighting the aspects of initiation and growing up: Hansel and Gretel are left alone in the forest, the meet the evil witch, who fattens them up for eating but, with cunning and wits, they escape from her and return home with her riches. And they live happily... and richly ever after!

Piccolo Teatro Studio Melato

“No fairies, spells or magical helpers. Just reality, with its events and temptations” says the director Eugenio Monti Colla. The tale of Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm is, in the history of literature, one of the most terrible and disturbing, set between a cottage, a forest, and a marzipan house ready to turn into a frightening cavern.
A world in which adults are forced to face natural disasters, unemployment, poverty and even greed. “For once, the step-mother is a positive figure, who takes on a loving aspect”, continues the director.  But this does not stop the children from being abandoned in the forest. For the children, this is the encounter with reality, fear and the perils of growing up. Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm is a true initiation during which the two siblings learn to grow up, overcoming challenging and painful tests, culminating in their meeting with the witch, from which they escape thanks to their sensitivity and common sense, to return to their family, more sure of themselves and their loved ones.
