Questi fantasmi!

Duration: one hour and 40 minutes with interval

The The staging of Questi fantasmi!, the masterpiece by Eduardo, marks the return of Elledieffe, Luca De Filippo’s company which is now directed by Carolina Rosi, following the premature death of its founder. Marco Tullio Giordana is the director of the play which sees Gianfelice Imparato in the lead role and which, following its debut in Florence, will be touring Italy. This staging, explains Carolina Rosi, is the “synthesis of a work which has generated shared artistic projects, and which continues, in the rigorous style of Luca, to represent and protect the immense cultural heritage of one of the oldest families in the tradition of Italian theatre”.
Questi fantasmi! is a play in three acts, written in 1945 and was one of the first plays by Eduardo to be performed abroad (in 1955 in Paris, at the Théâtre de la Ville with Sarah Bernhardt). It has received unanimous acclaim in all of its various editions. An unquestionable success due to the extraordinary mechanism of a text which, in the perfect balance between comedy and tragedy, proposes one of the central themes of Eduardo’s writing: that of life placed in brackets, substituted by an image, a disguise, a mask imposed on mankind by circumstance.
The play, following Napoli Milionaria!, is the second from the Cantata dei giorni dispari series. Eduardo was probably inspired by an episode involving his father, Eduardo Scarpetta. The latter in fact explains that his family, in financial difficulty, was suddenly forced to leave their home. The father quickly managed to find a new home, which seemed exceptional, and which cost very little to rent. A few days later all became clear: the house was occupied by an impertinent fairy, a “little monk”...
