Duration: one hour and 35 minutes with interval
Before it crosses the Atlantic to be performed in New York, the Piccolo is playing host to L’isola del tesoro, the last production that Eugenio Monti Colla was working on, based on a childhood classic.
The world of pirates, an island to explore, intrigue and betrayal: these are the typical ingredients which are used by the puppets to create a world of illusion in which the audience, forgetting what the “virtual” actors on the stage are made of, are drawn into, led to identify with the characters.
The atmosphere of the mysterious island, full of fights, traps, surprises and sudden changes in direction and alliance, right up to the happy ending, allows the puppets to once more become the protagonists of a grand adventure which will charm audiences of all ages and origins. The performance is supported by the music specially composed by Danilo Lorenzini, based on small fin de siècle orchestras, a style already used for the staging of Il giro del mondo in 80 giorni from 1992.
The decision, supported by Sergio Escobar, to stage the world premiere at the Piccolo Teatro Grassi before the United States tour, confirms the validity and far-sightedness of the project, which began almost twenty years ago, to propose the grand international productions by Carlo Colla & Figli in the place that was, and still is, the highest expression of Italian theatre since the Second World War.
