In a moment in history in which walls are being built between peoples and nationalism brandishes the non-acceptance of others, Wakatt—the latest creation by the choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly—uses the movements of dance to question the present, examining a form of humanity in transition that is seeking to create a future for itself.

Piccolo Teatro Strehler
After having explored, through numerous performances, the commitment demanded of individuals and the collectivity to the creation of a better world, Serge Aimé Coulibaly—here together with Magic Malik—now turns his attention to the present in a creation entitled Wakatt. In preparation since 2018, the show presents the audience with a form of humanity in transition, examining the nature of humans and their “natural instinct” to create a future for themselves, posing the question of how to address the present. The pre-pandemic world was already characterised by sufficient points of study on the subject, but, as the choreographer points out, “what we are currently experiencing will fuel and strengthen our purpose”. Dance thus becomes an essential vehicle to provoke reflection and thought, in a movement that fills the body with energy, bringing the mind to a state in which intuition and a sense of urgency take over.
In a moment in history in which walls are being built between peoples and nationalism brandishes the non-acceptance of others, Wakatt encourages resistance and an openness to a shared and generous future.
