Marco D’Agostin, with the support of Chiara Bersani and other artists from the Italian dance scene, recreate Jérôme Bel, a work by the homonymous French choreographer, one of the most important figures in international contemporary theatre.

Teatro Studio Melato
The show, a part of the European project STAGES, is the result of an idea by the English director Katie Mitchell and Bel himself to re-examine the ways that artistic work is produced and distributed; the challenge is to no longer tour productions, but rather the ideas that they are based on, entrusting to other artists a different restaging, from town to town (as has already happened at the Piccolo, with lacasadargilla, in Uno spettacolo per chi vive in tempi di estinzione).
D’Agostin reinvents Bel’s play, extending the concept of sustainability; not only a reflection on the environment, but also a way to examine the relationship of each individual with the context and the community in which they live.
The performer Chiara Bersani, who is artistically tied to both D’Agostin and Bel, is joined on stage by eighteen performers with differing bodies, stories and personalities. Nine professionals from the world of Italian dance, representing a range of eras and approaches, all united by a human and artistic affinity. Nine non-professionals from Milan, selected from contexts with which D’Agostin has already collaborated and through new synergies created in the city.
Unlike the original – a monologue in which Bel, at the computer, presents himself, projecting extracts of his shows on the screen –, in this version, the choreographies are reinterpreted live. «Working with artists who marked dance in Italy, and through dance itself, activating new relations in the city of Milan; this is the idea behind my restaging – explains D’Agostin, an associate artist at the Piccolo –. It is an opportunity to create a “temporary family” whose construction unfolds with the audience bearing witness. A temporary community of artists and humans who, playing the restaging of Bel, transform the theatre into a home; their home, and the home of the spectators.»
