It is the year 2077. The inhabitants of planet Earth are living in extremely precarious conditions, at the mercy of the results of global warming. In this world cast adrift, Tiago Rodrigues explores the possible “long-distance” dialogue between a father and his daughter, who has chosen to live on Mars.
-
Teatro Studio Melato
In a dystopian – yet plausible – scenario, Tiago Rodrigues explores both the consequences of our decisions and the ability to communicate from one generation to another. «I think that humanity has reached a point in its history», explains the director, «in which we can no longer expect that the lives of future generations will be better than ours, a hope that has been at the foundation of social and political organisation for centuries». The author and director brings two distant universes into contact, entrusting the dialogue to Adiama Diop and to Alison Dechamps.
With each occupying half of the stage, father and daughter are unable to ever see each other: like two celestial bodies, they follow orbits that constantly bring them close and then separate them. The audience, instead, manages to see either one or the other as the stage rotates, reflecting the elliptical movement of the plants, which has also inspired the choice of lighting and sound.
Show in French with surtitles in Italian by Chiara Elefante, and in English by Daniel Hahn
Duration: 1 hour and 25 minutes without intermission
