This year, 2022, the Milan Flamenco Festival is celebrating 15 years of programming with a specific goal; to move, amaze, inspire and construct. FUTURO DENTRO (future inside) is the common thread that binds the three shows that are taking place on 20, 22 and 24 June on the stage of the Teatro Strehler. In this vision/sensation of the future, there is space for a form of flamenco with a different character, one that is seeking to establish itself as an art among the arts, to boldly express its power and potential and aim right for the spectator; research and combination with contemporary gesturality, dialogue with electronic music, and scenographic innovation, all with a view to conquering dynamics that place flamenco in a different light without robbing it of its essence.
20 June, in response to intense demand, sees the return of the Premio Nacional de danza Manuel Liñán with his latest production PIE’ DE HIERRO, a show that focuses on the conflict with his Torero father, where he provides ample demonstration of his ability to follow tradition and lead it to an unusual position, midway between genius and simplicity, taking his place as a forerunner in the world of flamenco. A show that, through its power, rawness and rebellion, seeks human understanding and the warmth of an embrace.
PIE’ DE HIERRO is a strong and intense duel/dialogue with tradition, in which the artist seeks answers to his anti-conformism, questioning the future. In a futuristic setting, Liñán presents a rich tapestry of surprises - a dialogue between flamenco guitar and electric guitar, between the cante of power and the lovingness of the baile - where he provides ample demonstration of his ability to follow tradition and lead it to an unusual position, midway between genius and simplicity, taking his place as a forerunner in the world of flamenco.
Where there is no dance, there will be words. Where there is no faith, there will be silence. Where there is no silence, there will be an iron foot
