Chiara Guidi looks at the myth by Sophocles from two different points of view: in this second show as an examination of voice to uncover the most profound sounds and meaning of the work.

Piccolo Teatro Studio Melato

The figure of Oedipus lies at the centre of the two plays created by Chiara Guidi – cofounder of Societas Raffaello Sanzio, now known as Societas –, who has always been involved in a form of theatrical research that examines the voice as a dramatical cipher to unlock the sounds and meaning of a text.
In Sophocles’ tragedy, explains the director – who also performs and writes –, “nothing that is said is seen, and the events are entrusted to the words and the sound of voices”. Only with the voice – in the sound of letters, syllables, vowels and consonants that, as in the myths of cosmogony, express the mysteries of the representation of the world - Oedipus discovers the truth of his origins and his destiny.
