Seasons archive 2015-2025

A journey through the past ten seasons, which brought to the stage artists and projects capable of narrating our time.

2025/26 SEASON

The 2025/26 season, Expression of relationship, is a heterogeneous catalogue of the many facets of human relationships: theatre becomes a space for investigation and connection, serving as a lens to narrate an ever-changing report of our present.

2024/25 SEASON

The 2024/25 season, The edges of the horizon, explored the ways and forms through which theatre can intercept and give back the chameleonic multiplicity of reality: a labyrinthine gallery of the multiform horizons of our time, captured from different perspectives.

2023/24 SEASON

The 2023/24 season, The body of words, explored the physical dimension of theatrical language. A meticulous investigation into the word and its many uses and theatrical registers, its multiple facets and equally varied conjugations.

2022/23 SEASON

The 2022/23 season, The measure of things, presented a rich and multifaceted catalogue of interpretations of the life/theatre relationship and the ways of understanding it. The guiding thread of the season was the stage’s ability to become a “measure” for the things of the world, marking a space of distance or proximity in relation to them.

2021/22 SEASON

The 2021/22 season started anew from the youthful call of Giorgio Strehler and Paolo Grassi to be a community, in order to remain “An Art Theatre for Everyone”, ready to register the transformations of the present and to take a stand in the face of the changing complexity of reality.

2020/21 SEASON

The 2020/21 season reaffirmed our commitment to defending culture, social connection, and our bond with spectators. A season that stood as a symbol of a community that found in culture its primary mean of moving forward, in coming together its confidence in the future, and in theatre a necessary space for dialogue.

2019/20 SEASON

The 2019/20 season was evoked by a stage immersed in a forest, an open curtain onto a journey into the unknown. A poetic reflection on the meaning of theatre, the artwork created by Tullio Pericoli for the season suggested a story whose destination was unknown, a path to be lived and discovered together with the audience.

2018/19 SEASON

The 2018/19 season featured as its cover the evocative artwork La scoperta delle parole by Emilio Isgrò: within the words emerged a sense of journey, in the “cancellations” the sedimentation of memory and hope in the future. A responsibility shared with the audience, to (re)write together the idea of citizenship and identity as a collective narrative.

2017/18 SEASON

The 2017/18 season celebrated our 70th anniversary and the reconfirmation of our status as Theatre of Europe, with a programme suspended between memory and a “passion for the present”: classics, new productions, long runs, and contemporary texts came together in a repertoire that combined cultural responsibility and dialogue with the audience.

2016/17 SEASON

The 2016/17 season was marked by many anniversaries: the 70th anniversary of the founding, the 30th anniversary of the School, 20 years since the death of Strehler, and 30 years since that of Altiero Spinelli, reminding us that the word “Europe” is an important part of our name. A season lived in the memory of the unrepeatable, in order to build the probable and the “improbable” of the future.

2015/16 SEASON

The 2015/16 season investigated the dimension of time, which brings together extremes and composes fractures that only theatre can unite and heal. Theatrical time reveals itself in memory, in passion for the present, in nostalgia for the future, in a continuous “challenge against death”.

Beyond the stage – Shades of the season

Beyond the stage – Shades of the season

Oltre la scena – Riflessi di stagione (Beyond the stage – Shades of the season) brings together the series of activities that the Piccolo has created in close relation to its programming, creating a wide-ranging variety of initiatives that expand the ecosystem of the shows.

The many encounters and discussions with companies and theatrical operators (Parole in pubblico, Chi è di scena?) are joined, this year, by a cycle of events dedicated to relationships (Dobbiamo parlare!), which sees figures from the stage in dialogue with special guests selected directly by the artists.

There are presentations of books related to the season (Segnalibro), film screenings in the city’s cinemas (Sguardi paralleli), walks and theatrical tours in symbolic areas of Milan (Walk_Talk), as well as workshops and masterclasses (Teatro in platea), where spectators are given the opportunity to experience brief theatrical exercises.

A world range of formats bringing vitality to theatrical reasoning beyond the stage, transforming the theatre into a place of daily life, where we can come together to examine the complexity of observation.

Chi è di scena?

Pre-show encounters between spectators and theatrical operators, just a few minutes before the curtain raises.

Parole in pubblico

Conversations with artists, experts and scholars, as well as conferences and lessons accompanied by readings. Special format for the season: Dobbiamo parlare!, a dialogue between figures from the stage and special guests chosen directly by the companies.
